For this four bedroom detached family home, located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sanders Pepper Smith provided a design orientating the main façade of the building due south and opening up the living spaces with a full height glazed gallery space, maximising natural daylight. Solid floor structures also act as a thermal bank, helping to passively regulate temperatures within the building, and thus reduce the need for mechanical systems. This glazing element is fitted externally with a louver system that helps to regulate the suns effect; limiting solar gain during the summer, whilst allowing maximum benefits from the suns reduced altitude in the winter.
